Many kids were excited to attend the many camps the Western Springs Recreation Center offers. COVID-19 has caused the Rec Center to cancel their Just for Tots camp, Safety Village Camp, and many others. However, Tower Camp will continue despite the pandemic.
Tower Camp is for children 5.5-8 years old and is taking place at Laidlaw Park. Activities include games, crafts, songs, and water play which are designed to help kids have fun, make new friends, and be creative.
The camp has taken measures to ensure the safety of staff and participants, such as wearing a mask when kids are unable to stay six feet apart and requiring a COVID-19 waiver. Teeball, an extra after camp activity, was cancelled. The Rec Center is still hoping to have yoga next session.
Each session Sessions last three weeks and each week has a unique theme. The themes for the first session are Stars and Stripes, Heart of Texas, and Cool Critters. Campers will participate in activities related to these themes.
When Claire Rhoten, a Tower Camp participant, was asked how she liked the camp she said, “I really like it!” Rhoten is very excited for a special water day and enjoys playing on the playground and making friends.
